News, Stupid, TV by jared
Now, here’s some morons.. It looks like Philips doesn’t want you to be able to stop watching a commercial. If you’re watching a live show, you can’t change the channel. If you’re watching a recorded show, you can’t fast forward. Who the fuck do they think they are?
Next up is people who can’t drive and talk at the same time. I wouldn’t be stupid enough to say that I’m as good of driver when I’m on the phone, but at the same time I’m not drunk either. Hell, put that shit on speakerphone and and set it on the seat next to you. Problem solved. Don’t look at your phone when you’re dialing–push the voice button and say a name. Another problem solved. It’s ridiculous when you get down to it.

I went to the mall yesterday; shocking, I know. I had to get a haircut and some dinner though. You see, my Grandmother/Uncle got me a gift certificate to Garfields for Christmas. I decided to wander through Waldenbooks while my food was cooking as it was right across the hall from the restaraunt, and I discovered something horrible. Clay Aiken has an autobiography. It gets worse. When I searched Amazon for that link, I found that there is not one, but more like 10 books about Clay Aiken. He even wrote a few of them. I know you don’t believe me, so here’s proof. Why? Do we really need published material about him?
I just thought that was a little ridiculous. It probably wasn’t worth a rant like that, but I was bored. In other news, I’ve been watching a lot of House lately. I shot through most of season 1 this week, and I’ve decided that it’s a good show. It has got me thinking that they should make a dramatic show about an genius engineer.
Just think of the possibilities. The main focus of the show could be him doing some major problem solving. He’ll attempt a solution, and when it fails, he’ll call tech support. Then repeat 4-5 times until the hour is up and it’s time for victory. The drama would have to come from deadlines, of course. “If we don’t get this motor spinning by next Friday, the project is going to be scrapped by the CEO.” That’s just as exciting as, “If he doesn’t get a new kidney, he’ll die,” right?
The supporting characters could be a bit of a problem. There would be the brainy but shy white-guy understudy. Then the brainy but shy asian-guy understudy. His weird and gregarious white-guy peer. And who could forget the lover interest. He’ll fall slowly in love with that vixen of a receptionist while the sexual tension builds between him and his semi-attractive female understudy.
I think it could work.

I was looking for the old “Centers: Don’t Walk” commercial from SportsCenter back in the day, and i found an ESPN hosted page with a bunch of their “This is SportsCenter” commercials. Check it out. SportsCenter commercials have consistently been some of the funniest on tv for years now.
Bee Tee Dub: This is my first full day with a computer for over a week. Some things you just can’t live without.

News Story
Well this just sucks. I know I complained about this show being a little weak this year, but I thought it made a great come back this week. The last two episodes were great. FOX might be the dumbest network in the world. (See Firefly, Family Guy, etc.)
[Edit by Jared:] Fixed the link.

Geez, Scott really has to hold this site together nowadays. I keep making promises to post and then I never do. It’s pretty pitiful, really.
I’ve been busy with school, and that’s not just an excuse. I’ve literally had a good 5x more work this semester than any of my previous semesters. That flat out blows. As I always say, I’ll do my best to start posting more. Next week I’ve got a two exams and a presentation that I have to give. That pretty much fucks up my weekend. w00t.
In other TV news, The Office is the shit. Tonight’s episode was one of the funniest shows I’ve seen in a while. It rivals the basketball episode for best of the series, in my opinion. The episode title of “Sexual Harassment” pretty much tells you it’s going to be a good episode. If any of you haven’t watched that show, you owe it to yourself to check it out. I love it.

Did anyone catch the new arrested last night?
I thought it was total crap. For one thing, I couldn’t even understand what they were talking about in the scenes with Michael and the British girl. The whole thing just confused me. There was very little funny about that episode.
If it continues like this, I will probably quit watching the show.

Saw this on engadget today. It sounds prety cool to me. I would settle for a “last channel” button that went through more than one channel. There are a few times when I would like to be able to flip between 3 or more shows at once. Maybe I should design my own remote….
Maybe in a few years.

More Daily Show fun I’ve actually been meaning to post this for a while, but the clip was on their site. I hope the Indians win. That would be hilarious.

Here’s a Daily Show clip that’s just sad. The clip itself, I suppose, isn’t really the sad part. It’s more or less what it talks about. Pay close attention to the last 10 seconds or so.

This is pretty sweet. I wish I would have caught it on tv, because it was live and that means the “bullshit” actually got through. It would have been pretty damn cool to watch.
