Hey, it’s another weekend trip to Indy

Well, as you know, there’s not much to do in Terre Haute, so I try to leave there as often as possible. This weekend, I went up to Indy w/ one of my roommates.

We went to a Peruvian restaurant for dinner. I’d never had Peruvian before, but I would have to say that I liked it. The best part was actually this bread dip they brought out before the meal. It looked a lot like guacamole, but apparently didn’t have any avocados in it. Could’ve fooled me, but it was good none the less. The waitress told me what was in it and what it was called, but I can’t remember either now. My main dish was some pasta with a pesto sauce served with a piece of chicken and a potato. All of the dishes seemed to very high starch. Most had a potato and either rice or pasta.

After dinner, we went to downtown Indy. On the street, we saw this white guy and black guy fighting with each other over what I assume was a racial dispute. They continued to scream at each other even as the walked in separate directions. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. I was trying as hard as I could not to laugh because we walked right by them, but I couldn’t suppress it. I was a little afraid that they were going to get mad at me, but they didn’t. It was one of those, “you had to be there moments”, but I wanted to relate it anyway. Hope it wasn’t too boring for you.

We went to see Lord of War too. I thought it was pretty decent, but not what I was expecting. I was looking for something along the lines of Matchstick Men, but it was actually a pretty heavy-handed political commentary.

It’s a Nicholas Cage movie about a gun runner. It sort of follows his history from his startup in the 80′s up through the present.

It pretty much blamed the major countries of the world for all the wars in African and the mid-East. They talked about how the biggest weopens dealers were the 5 members of the UN security council. Then, when Cage got caught, he not only got off free, but also got paid for the experience of being arrested because he sells guns to the enemies of the enemies of the US.

They were basically saying that with tighter gun control, there wouldn’t be as much war in the world.

Of course, this would kind of set up the US or at least the emembers of the security coucil to be the world’s police. Seems like we already get criticized for that enough as it is. Seems to be a bit of a paradox to me.
