More ‘fun’ in SLU ER

So I was talkin’ to Scott the other day and he mentioned that he hadn’t seen any of my tales from workin’ at SLU ER. Well, thanks for the jinx, Scott, because we got slammed last night hard around 7:30.

Four trauma patients came in together. Two of them were Level 1s–the worst a trauma patient can be, requiring IMMEDIATE attention–the other two traumas were Level 2s–not quite as bad, but also requiring immediate action.

The Level 1 I was involved with was a patient with bilateral open tibia/fibia fractures with bone protrusion posterior to the leg.

He was crushed between two cars…ouch!

He had lots of evulsions and lacerations, and some pretty bad contusions…basically, he was a mess, a loud, screaming, bloody mess.

He needed immediate surgery, and had to be temporarily splinted by the ortho resident to avoid any more injury. So, your’s truly got to hold the legs of a 250-265 pound male up in the air and provide counter traction while the resident splinted it. So, needless to say, my arms hurt afterwards.

It wasn’t the worst trauma I’ve been, but it was pretty nasty.

The other Level 1 was a cop who’d been shot, so that was crazy too, but I wasn’t in on that one.

Well, I gotta get ready for my next class. On a side note, only four weeks left of classes for me…sweet!

See ya!

ILL vs UNC

Well it really shouldn’t surprise anybody, as far as I’m concerned. We’ve been the best team all year, and most people think the Tarheels have been the best team all year. As it turns out, we both made it to the NCAA Championship game.

Louisville couldn’t handle us in the second half. That was when we took over. It was definitely a nice site.

Another nice site was all the people after the game who went to Green Street (our campus main street) to party. We went out there for a while to check it out. The news later on guessed there may have been around 10,000 people up there. The street was just crammed w/ people cheering and yelling. Luckily, there wasn’t any rioting or anything, but who knows what could happen after we win on Monday. :)

Medal of Honor

I came across this page today.

It’s an interesting read that describes the stories of several different Medal of Honor recipients. It will take 15-20 minutes to read them all, but I think it’s definitely worth it. Enjoy!
