Slow Weekend

My weekend went by pretty slow, which is a good thing. I like my weeks to pass quickly, and then for my weekends to take their time.

This weekend was one of those good ones. I didn’t really do anything, except to sit around watch play video games or watch tv. I’m doing homework now, but that’s beside the point. Until now, I hadn’t done any work.

Last night I had this weird thing where the power went out for like 1/2 a second. Most things stayed on, because it was just a minor “skip” in the power. My computer rebooted, though, as it’s a power-hungry beast from the great beyond.

Anyway, when I booted up, one of my hard drives was fucked up. Windows would’t even boot. When I took it out, Windows booted fine. Long story short, I had to boot into Linux to get my files off and reformat. It was a pain in the ass, but to my knowledge, I didn’t lose anything. That’s always a plus.

Fire Alarm

So I may have set off the fire alarm in my dorm yesterday. I got hungry about 4 o’clock, and I decided to grill some quesadillas on the Forman. In the middle of the second one, the fire alarm goes off. I think we have the loudest fire alarm in the world, and it’s right outside my room. That thing makes me go deaf when I have the door closed.

I’m not really sure if it was me that set it off or not. The grill really wasn’t smoking, so I doubt that it it was. I just found the whole thing slightly amusing.

My feet hurt…

I hate getting into work and then a Level I Trauma–that’s the worst they can be–arrives within 10 minutes of clocking in. Poor guy tripped against some type of steel belt on a machine at work…took a nice slice off from the tip of his nose up to his forehead. Thankfully SLU has some awesome docs that can suture pretty damn well. Looked a lot better than what we thought it would look like.

Aside from that, it’s not fun juggling 17 patient rooms and the three trauma rooms all by yourself for four hours. Plus I didn’t get my lunch until 4 p.m. (9 hours w/o food, not fun).

And this next week is gonna be hell b/c of Mardi Gras…oh well, I can celebrate my last overnight w/ some partying…LOL.

So, time to get some sleep…gotta do it all again in the morning.

Challenger

I thought it was cool when I found out that NASA did this: NASA.

Career Fair Conspiracy

Rose-Hulman pulls an eloborate hoax a few times a year that they like to call a career fair. They lead us to believe that these fairs are for getting jobs, although none of the companies there seem interested in hiring people. It is my belief that the school hires actors to come and impersonate company reps. This way, all the students will have some hope that they will get a job this summer, or at least when they graduate. No one seems to no anyone who has gotten a job, or at least an internship, at these career fairs. I’ve heard that seniors get permanent jobs from these things, but that is way less likely that my theory.

We Rock You

In case you didn’t notice my shout on the side of the page, we did win our game yesterday. It happened in grand style, too. We were down by like eight, and then Jack Ingram hit two 3′s. Haha. Jack’s this big white guy who shouldn’t be shooting threes. Hm, that must have been what Wisconsin thought too, before he drilled that shit.

There really shouldn’t be any question now that we deserve to be ranked #1. And, realistically, there isn’t. Kyle informed me that only one first place vote went to somebody other than us. Finally everybody gets it.

I mean, look at this:

Who wants to mess with that? I know I don’t, and I know you don’t. So that leaves no one. Seriously, he’s pissed about something. Look at what he’s doing to the white guy behind him. His name is Zach Morley, and now he’s dead. I’m serious. He’s dying in that picture. I guess somebody should call his family or something–I don’t know, I’ve never done this before.

Damn Buses

The buses around this place are usually pretty good. There’s a lot of them, they’re pretty quick, and they’re usually on time.

However, there seems to be one bus driver that’s conspiring against me. It’s this old guy that I’d seen my freshman year, but hadn’t seen at all last semester. We’ll call him Old Joe.

Now Old Joe seems like a decent enough guy–I’m sure he’s a nice person in real life. He probably has a family that’s reasonably fond of him. This much wouldn’t surprise me at all. What also wouldn’t surprise me is if he didn’t understand the concept of time.

The bus I usually take, The 22, is on a 10 minute schedule. What that means to most of us is that a bus should be by every 10 minutes. In this case, it happens to be on the 9′s. That is, :09, :19, :29, etc. It’s a fairly simple concept so far.

Old Joe, though.. Silly Old Joe just doesn’t get it. He shows up whenever he wants. Sometimes, there’s another bus right behind him. Literally. Like, he’ll get there, and then 10 seconds later the next bus gets there, because he’s just that late. Now I don’t mean to hate on the guy, but that just isn’t up to par, Joe.

When you’re 5+ minutes late on a 10 minute schedule, you might as well not even show up. What I can’t figure out is what part of the schedule Old Joe just hasn’t grasped. If there’s something about the system that you guys don’t understand, don’t hesitate to let me know. Maybe I have super-alien powers that let me understand “time” better than most people. In fact, that’s the only reasonable explanation left. I have secret, super alien powers. That’s awesome. Thanks Old Joe.

Tuesdays…good and bad

So today started out great. First of all, I didn’t have to wake up at 6 a.m. because I wasn’t scheduled to work today. That right there was awesome because I got to sleep in until 9 a.m., which for me is sweet because it never happens anymore.

I actually got bored today because I wasn’t working, so it was also great that the weather was nice so I was outside studying some for part of the day.

Though, all the good had to end somewhere and it did tonight at 6 p.m. when my night class began. 3 hours of learning straight is just not for me…I don’t think I’ll ever be taking a night class after this again. It’s so hard to try and stay awake, especially when the subject in inferential statistics and the professor is incredibly boring and monotonous.

I guess the only good thing that comes out of it is that it only meets once a week, but that’s not even that great of a bonus considering…

Time to go read more Aristotle and then sleep.

How?

How can you win 19 games, lose 0, be the unanimous number 1 team in the country in the minds of voting coaches, and finish just one vote shy of having the same distinction by the associated press and be favored by only 1 and 1/2 points against a a team that is only 13-3? A team that coaches feel only barely cracks the top 20 best teams in America and who the press doesn’t even regard that highly?

(1) Illinois (19-0) v. (19) Wisconsin (13-3)
Tonight, ESPN, 8:00PM CST
The line: Illini are giving Wisconsin 1 1/2 points.

I don’t care about the 38 game home winning streak. Come at me with THIS YEAR’S home winning streak and I might listen, because at least they did that with the players they have NOW. This one basketball game. All that streak’s gonna do is give Dick Vitale something else to bust a gut over 15 or 95 times during the game (By the way, Dickie V and his Duke/Kansas/UNC/ACC/Chris Paul/Ty Willingham biases are all going to be doing color for the game tonight).

If the game comes down to the waning seconds tonight, and Illinois is down by 1 with the last shot, The D’s and Luther shouldn’t even consider driving in or giving the ball to Junior or James. Do what got you there. Shoot the “trifecta” (right Dick?), sink it, and show those Vegas oddmakers they were wrong. The Illini should have at least been favored by 2.

Weather

I guess this is a little obvious, but I find it odd that the temperature feels different by the time of year. For instance, it feel pretty warm today, but it’s only 45. At the beginning of the season, 45 would have seemed pretty cold. Since it’s been sub-freezing for about a month though, 45 seems pretty nice. It just seems like temperature should have an exact feeling instead of a relative one.

24

The 24 this week was really good in case you missed it. 24 is the new thing that I look forward to each week. That will count even more so now that football is (almost) over.

Thermodynamics

Dang. The last two physics classes I had weren’t overly tough. I never went to lecture, I didn’t study for the finals, and I got A’s in both. I definitely can’t argue with that.

However, a large part of that easiness was due to the fact that we had this interactive homework that walked us through the concepts, and I loved it. I learned from it perfectly. In Thermo, we don’t have that, which sucks to a great degree.

I just finished doing the first homework, and I’m not sure how I did. I could see it going either way. The answers I marked made sense, but that doesn’t mean they’re right by any means. Wish me luck.

Tests

So I had 3 tests last Friday. I got one back today, and I got an 89 on it. I was fairly happy with that.

One of them, though, the prof said he had finished grading half of them, and he didn’t expect the class average to be above 50. That’s pretty crappy. I think that indicates his inability to teach the material. He thought it was just because he made the test too long. I personally did all the work that I could do in the allotted time, and I doubt that I passed it. He’s supposed to give us some way of making of the points tomorrow.

Overnights Suck

So, I’ve come to the conclusion that overnights at the hospital aren’t really working for me that much. It really screws up your schedule when you wake up for class at 7 a.m. on a Friday go all day then work from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

My Saturday’s go to hell because I’m sleeping, which then screws up Saturday nights and Sundays.

I’m gonna be getting this fixed before our next schedule comes out.

On a side note regarding Scott’s post…I’m gonna be attending the auto show in Chicago when I go up in February, so that should be fun.

Ok, time to try and get some sleep so I make it to class tomorrow morning.

Auto Show

Well, I did make it to the auto show. It was a pretty good time, although it was a pretty long drive for such an event. It was sure nice to get out of Terre Haute for the weekend.

I’m not really sure why certain people think that I wouldn’t be interested in an auto show. I doubt that I would have gone on my own, but I like cars.

I’d say the highlight was the new Lexus concept. It’s beautiful. It was easily the best looking “new” car in the show.
