Rugby

So I watched Rugby for the first time last night. It’s a great game. It’s extremely exciting, fairly easy to follow, and very physical. Those guys beat the crap out of each other. There were a few injuries in the game, but I’m surprised there weren’t more. They don’t wear pads or any sort of protection. Crazy stuff, I’m looking forward to watching more of it. I don’t know if it can replace the NFL, but it should help ease the pain some.

Hockey

I’ve been playing a lot of ESPN NHL Hockey recently. It’s a great game. I’ve had to adjust the difficulty sliders a little bit to easy myself into it, but I’ve got them set pretty much at their defaults now that I’m better at the game.

This has made me want to play hockey again. For those of you that don’t know, I used to play hockey all the time when I lived in Texas. Not ice hockey, but roller hockey. Either way, it was really fun. I’d like to get my friends to try playing sometime, but I doubt it’ll happen. After all, roller blades + sticks + pucks = more than most people would want to pay to try something out. Hehe.

Aquarium

I went down to the aquarium this morning. It was probably one of the coolest things I’ve done here. I had the good fortune of being there at feeding time. So I got to see scuba divers hand feeding sharks, 4 foot sting rays, and giant sea turtles. I don’t think I would have the guts to get in a shark tank and hand feed them. You’d have to be crazy in my opinion.
There was an employee there observing the feeding. He said that the turtles were actually the most dangerous creature in the tank because they have such strong jaws and they’re stupid. There were huge nurse sharks which he said were quite harmless unless provoked. I still don’t think I’d want to scuba dive with them though.

Sydney

Finally there. 31 hours from house to lodging. 19 hours of flying. 14 hours of nighttime. I’m jet-lagged like crazy.

I got my tuition paid and the visa is all but completed. All I have to do is get a medical check.

I went to see the Sydney Opera House and the rocks today. I also went to the Botanical Garderns which were shown in Mission Impossible 2 at the very end. They aren’t really Botanical Gardens like those in America, they are more of a park.

I did take some pictures, but apparently I can’t access my webspace through the Rose VPN. That sucks.

After two days here, I would have to say that Australians are the friendliest people I’ve ever encountered.

I also checked to see about the water flushing in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, out bathroom has some sort of power flusher. The water gets sucked straight down. I’ll have to look in public bathrooms and such. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on those developments.

Well Shit

Link. And imagine the things we don’t know about.

Two Movies

I saw a couple movies in as many days over the weekend. First I saw King Arthur, and second was Anchorman.

I’d been hearing some rather bland things about King Arthur, but I didn’t think it was that bad. It wasn’t the greatest movie ever, and I’m not sure it was worth seeing in the theater, but I liked it. I think it’d have been much better if it’d have been rated R. Some of the battle scenes would have been better.

Anchorman was very good, imho. However, I am admittedly a very big Will Ferrell fan. It had much more stupid, unrelated to the movie comedy than I expected. By stupid, I don’t mean bad or anything. If you don’t know what I mean, I suppose that’s too bad. Heh. I can’t really seem to find the words to describe what I mean. Anyway, I think that was worth seeing.

Scott left for Australia today. So I actually went to the movies with him. I figured I’d try to do a few things with him the days before he left, so that was cool. Hope he enjoys himself.

Postcards

Some of you have expressed interest in receiving postcards from Australia. If you want one, please give me your address. I’ll be sending them out in August I think.
Also, Jared, can you give me Dylan’s address?
